Introduction to Family Therapy

This course offers an overview of major schools of family therapy. Theoretical models and practical application model of family therapy are included. The course is structured in 4 three hour workshops wich can be taken in 2 days or in half days over a period of some weeks.

Workshop 1. Theory: Schools of Family therapy: theory and historical overview.
Workshop 2. Application: Case examples. Use of genograms, hypothesising. Stressors and intergenerational patterns. Lifecycle stages.
Workshop 3. Theory: A four stage model, engagement issues, ambivalence and options. Referral and closure.
Workshop 4. Application: Case examples, processing the four stage model and using circularity.


This course has been run for groups of therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists and GPs. Feedback has been very positive.
